What is your name? Tiffany Takagi

What is your age and grade? I’m twenty years old and a college bachelor's student.

What is your motivation to lead a club within the school? (250+ words)
As a high school student, I learned that school morale keeps our spirit alive. Exploring new interests, supporting one another, chasing your goals - those things make us want to get out of bed at the crack of dawn and head to school. A huge part of that is the communities we build, and the fun we then have. Sports teams have brought a competitive nature in our pupils, councillors have advocated for our benefits and kept us on the straight and narrow, and clubs have allowed us to explore our interests in a setting with fellow enthusiastic students. One of the best ways to make friends during this rather confusing and stressful period in our lives is by participating in one of those three options.

During my high school years, I was a cheerleader and a club leader. I had a passion for performing and being in the spotlight, so I founded the performing arts club. To this day, the club is still standing and thriving in the hands of my co-lead, now club-leader. I spent many nights writing plays and performances, hosting auditions, all whilst working on my cheer routines at the same time. It’s safe to say it was a lot of work. As I got older and my interests started to narrow, I realised that reading and writing were something I enjoyed. It took my mind off things and allowed me a temporary reprieve from stressful school work or nights worrying about a sports competition. The creative industries have captivated my heart in a way that physics or mathematics never could. With that, my goal is to find like-minded people who share my passions for all things books. Building and being part of a community is something I have experience with, which is why I am confident in my ability to give students a space to explore their creative writing outside of English class. This is the time to pick up that pen and write like you’re running out of time!

Why choose you over other candidates applying for this position? (50+ words)
During my school years, I have worked hard to be a pillar of stability and confidence. I am a great example of clarity, adaptability and artistic genius. I’ve racked up experience in leadership through my previous club leadership endeavours as well as my outside business, Takagi Corporation. I have been able to make something out of nothing before, and I see no reason as to why I could not do the same here. A book club, to my knowledge, has not been seen or been made popular before. I plan to change that with exciting workshops, opportunities for exploration and publicity as well as a comfortable space for the quiet bookworms of the world.

What is the official title of your club? Book Club

Provide a small summary of your club (75 words)
Book club is the archive for all things reading and writing. We provide a space to relax, read and relate with other classmates about your favourite genres. There’s no pressure to fit into a box when the goal is to explore new worlds and even create your own. A wide range of activities will be available on a weekly basis, from writing workshops to group reading. The possibilities are endless when it comes to books.

Please gather five student members for your club and list their character names and usernames
Harry Shima | GuestGuest9
Lexy Sparks | lesqian
Raphael Marchand | gncme
Aeris Solaire | tovuh
Mitsuta Isonokami | lirycalli
Leilani Li | mlayi
Yurim Su | jenau
Adao Delarosario | Crovantist
Mei Miura | Neeryu

Do you have a student councillor to supervise and assist your club? If yes, please provide their character name and username
You may ask any councillor that is not already a supervisor, if you can not find one, one will be provided to you upon acceptance.

I do not have a supervisor at this time.

Will there be any requirements of future members to join your club?
Students to apply will be asked to either write a short story or a review of a book of their choosing.
Members will be required to attend any meetings they commit themselves to prior to the meeting. (Exceptions will be allowed depending on the situation.)
Must read the club rules and accept the terms and conditions of joining the club.
Must show they understand that removal from the club can occur if rules are broken or they show a substantial dip in activity.
Participate when they can!
Have a passion for either reading or writing, that is what we’re all about after all.
The most important requirement is to own a library card!

Provide one school-wide event that your club may host
World Book Day will be celebrated on the 26th of April, 2026. An opportunity for authors and readers to talk about all things books! On this day, we would encourage students to dress up as their favourite book character and join us for a book festival. There will be multiple stalls for different club members to promote their own short stories or novels. People can ask questions, show their interest or even get their copy signed by the author! We would also have some fun activities for people to participate in, such as a costume competition, slam poetry competition, bookmark decorating, merch shops with tote bags, bookmarks and books, a live performance from a local student band and so much more! We should strive to make this event an annual event, something for our members to work towards when publishing their stories. We would also advocate for the school library to display our member’s work and work closely with the librarians to provide new reading material for students.

Provide one flash event that your club may host
One of the most fun parts of reading for me personally would be book launches! Getting to meet the mind behind one of your favourite fictions can be a surreal experience, and one we’d like to provide! If a member is finally ready to publish a book during the year, they will be able to host a book launch where people can ask questions about the book, their process and the author’s thoughts during it all. At the end of the launch, the author will gladly sign and take photos with any students who would like one!

Another take on this idea would be a famous author coming to the school to chat to the students, such as Zoosanne Callings or Steven Queen! Getting to meet your heroes doesn’t always have to be a bad experience.

Provide one club activity that your club might host
One major part of the book club will be workshops for the members! During these activities, members will be taught on how to write a plotline, how to create interesting characters and even learn to bind books! There is so much that goes into creating a novel, so we wish to provide all of the information they may need for a successful career or hobby in the craft of writing. We will also gather for editorial days, where we can cross-read each other's work and give constructive criticism if one feels at a loss or having writer's block.

I would also like to provide days for people who aren’t all that interested in writing, and instead would just like to find other people to nerd out with about books. With that, we will also have assigned readings for the members, who will then be able to come together and discuss what they thought about the book and give their review. There are a good handful of amazing fictional books already implemented in the school library, so until we are able to expand on that we would rely on those! Teas, coffees and cakes will be provided.

Extra Information
I would also like to provide my club with some exclusive items to show off as a member of this super cool club, those being club jackets, notebooks and bookmarks, tote bags and our very own library system! Book lovers are the ultimate collectors, thus it only makes sense that we have a club library. I would also like to get my hands on a barcode scanner so we can come up with our own system (spreadsheet) that tells us when a member takes out or puts in a book from the library. This library will be an archive for the club’s journey and show off all of the work the club has produced over the years. It will be up to the club members to keep dust off the shelves and the books in excellent condition. No dog-eared pages will be tolerated!

I would like the club room to be a space for members to come and read quietly or discuss with their fellow students about their latest read. A library of course would be required, as well as a space for everyone to sit down and discuss or work at. I think a cute little addition to the club room would be a board with little reading challenges for those in a reading slump. Such as ‘have a reading marathon with a friend’ or ‘read a book from an author you’ve never heard of before’. Sometimes reading can feel like a chore, so we want to make it feel fun again!

I think this club also leaves lots of room for collaboration. What immediately came to mind was working with the art club for some illustrated book covers and the journalist club for publishing! I think this would be a fun way to make friends with people with other interests that float under the same umbrella as creative writing and reading.
