SCHOOL NEWS REPORT | KPD: Safety in School & Beyond

“Protect and Serve”

The Karakura Police Department, better known as KPD, graced our school stage earlier this week. The demonstration was set to focus on ways for citizens to stay safe while crime in our town continues to grow. Those in attendance included Officers K876, K250, K555, K420, as well as Detectives K808 & K313. Once each was introduced the rest of the assembly began.

Karakura Community College’s own Professor Benicious A. Watcher participated as the supposed criminal being raided. KPD showed themselves gearing up before entering the residence, which had already been signaled to have illegal weapons. They were able to show their crowbars and riot shields! Hopefully none of the students have had to see them before..

Upon locating the suspected ‘criminal’, they were promptly arrested by KPD! Though it was also explained in the events of a more.. Resistant arrest, other methods are used. One Officer in particular was able to showcase what it’s like to use both the taser & tranquilizer gun on the professor.

After the demonstration had ended, the KPD explained methods of joining their ranks. Many expressed internships for our local Spartans are one of the best ways of doing so! I encourage any students that are interested in the force to pursue such. They also explained the different departments between Detective and Officers. Those that stayed until the end were able to ask questions. I was fortunate enough to speak to two of those involved in the mini assembly event.

[Interview 1: Officer K555]

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “Thank you for allowing me to talk with you today, Officer. I was wondering if you had any advice in particular for students that wish to join the KPD in the future. Obviously, Internships are a good option. However, what would you recommend besides that for any hopeful applicants?”

Officer Yōkota Tsukumo: “Pretty easy to answer question. Keep your record clean. The less charges you have, the higher your chances are.. If you do have a felony though then you cannot apply at all - other than that.. There’s not much more.”

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “I see. Well, even so, it’s great to hear from an officer herself on how our future officers can grace the station. I thank you again for your time.”

Officer Yōkota Tsukumo: “It’s no problem.. The name is Tsukumo. My Call sign is K555 if that helps any as well.”

[Interview 2: Professor Watcher]

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me. What was it like participating in today's demonstration? I understand you helped the KPD show some practical methods of apprehending suspects in Karakura.”

Professor Benicious A. Watcher: “Honestly the average day in my life.. Getting tazed was a shock. It was fine though.”

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “I see.. Despite that, is there anything you wished may have gone differently today? Or perhaps in future demonstrations?”

Professor Benicious A. Watcher: “For Future- I feel as if they need to bring in businesses rather than just KPD. Such as jobs from the church or shrine.”

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “I agree! I believe seeing a larger range of career options could benefit our student body. While the KPD is an incredible force, there are other choices for the future we could learn from.”

Professor Benicious A. Watcher: “Even Teachers and Professors could talk about their careers at the school. I’ve been here.. A couple years now.”

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “That would be interesting! Perhaps we should suggest career-day like assemblies with different stores and factions. I would greatly look forward to future such events if they were held.”

Journalist Lucian Cheon: “Am I able to get your name and permission to use this in the article? I’d like to represent our faculty in any way I can, especially when you’ve been so helpful.”

Professor Benicious A. Watcher: “God bless kiddo. It’s Benicious Aurlini Watcher.”

[Audio File’s Ended]

Overall, while the assembly was quite sudden, I felt it was useful for what it was to our student body. We were able to see the methods our KPD uses in order to keep us safe as well as how to avoid such incidents in the future.

As commented by the professor, I believe we should invest in more factions beyond the police force. While there are many interested in becoming an officer there is also a portion of students' interests currently unheard. Bringing in Shop owners to explain business practices, EMS professionals about the medical field, or even our lovely Shrine maidens could bring a newfound excitement for our classes.

Overall, I do hope to see events such as this continue in Karakura. I will continue to report as they appear from a student & a journalist’s point of view. This is Lucian Cheon signing off until then.
