QOTD 24: Why made your character emotionally/physically break?

Honestly Half of these are pretty sad
Reiji: At one point with his teaching career he's broken down physically from overworking himself. Luckily he's now in a better spot and his hard work has finally paid off and is doing really well as of right now.
Amane: Very recently she was denied to perform at a major gig and from that alone she's now at her lowest point in time. This is very much significant for her because she made a promise to her dead cousin that she would one day make it big as a musician and compromising her own health and social life to make it happen. And to see her hard work get thrown out the window broke her in every way Mentally, Emotionally, Physically and even Financially.
Midori: The moment that broke her emotionally was when she found out her closest friend died. From that moment she ended up skipping school and became a Hikikomori for about 2 months. Luckily she's in a better position now, however she now distances herself from people to not get to emotionally attached to them as she fears one day they'll leave her life.
Suomi: she's basically my Haru Urara/Mayano Top Gun. Nothing Could Ever Break Her!!!
