What are your current roles on the server?:

Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
Teachers are a key part of the roleplay experience! It is SchoolRP after all. Without teachers, the realism of the school faction would not exist. If classes were not being held, it would not feel like a real school in the slightest. Teachers bring the school roleplay experience to life by coming up with lesson plans, handing out homework, quizzes and tests, and engaging the students daily.
Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?: Yes
Do you agree to undergo teacher training if your application is successful?: Yes
In-Character Section
What's your character's full name?: Rachel Lai
What is your character's nationality?: Chinese
What is your preferred subject to teach?: English
Describe your character:
Rachel Lai has an even tan and strikingly light blonde hair, clearly dyed to perfection. Her appearance is always immaculate—you’ll never see her with her hair out of place, her face bare, or without her grandmother’s cherished pearls. Soft-spoken, polite, and impeccably well-mannered, Rachel embodies grace and refinement.
As an only child raised under constant scrutiny, she grew up as a dutiful, rule-abiding "goody two-shoes." Her privileged upbringing in a high-class environment left her sheltered from much of the world, and even now, she continues to navigate new experiences with a touch of naivety.
Despite the life her parents meticulously planned for her, Rachel is determined to carve out her own path. Becoming a teacher in Karakura marks the first step in her journey of independence and self-discovery.
What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
Rachel Lai sees the students of Karakura as younger versions of herself. Though she graduated as her class valedictorian, it didn’t come easily—her success was the result of dedication and relentless effort. She understands that school isn’t something everyone looks forward to, nor does it come naturally to every student. Because of this, Rachel goes above and beyond to ensure her students have the resources and support they need to excel. Her care extends beyond her own classroom; she genuinely wants the best for all students, knowing they might be facing the same challenges she once did.
Rachel holds her co-workers in high regard and is deeply grateful to be part of such a dedicated team. She strives to contribute to the positive atmosphere at Karakura by upholding its high standards and fostering camaraderie. Mornings are her favorite time to connect, often accompanied by small gestures of kindness like coffee or flowers for the breakroom. Just as school can be challenging for students, Rachel knows it’s not always easy for the staff. She makes it her mission to brighten each day, helping her peers feel supported and appreciated.
What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
As stated previously, Rachel Lai was raised with properness and poise in Shenzhen, China. From her youth, she was ******* to be the heiress to the Lai Corporation. Having your entire life planned out for you may seem nice - you don't have to think much for yourself… however Lai did not see it that way. She was grateful for the opportunity and her status in the world, but Lai wanted to be able to take a break from her duties as Lady Rachel Lai, and just be a normal woman. Similar to when a lost, 20-something may travel abroad to find themselves, Lai did the same. Taking her own 'gap year,' she set off to be an English teacher in Karakura, Japan. Being such a role-model student herself back in high school, she found this to be the perfect job for her. English was her best subject after all. It was the breath of fresh air she needed to truly be herself and feel like she was making a difference in the world. At least she was making a difference to the students who needed her.
Roleplay Scenarios
A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
Raised with grace and propriety in Shenzhen, China, Rachel Lai was ******* from a young age to become the heiress to the Lai Corporation. While having her life meticulously planned might seem enviable—eliminating the need to make tough decisions—Rachel didn’t see it that way. Though grateful for her privileged upbringing and the opportunities it afforded her, she yearned for a chance to step away from her duties as "Lady Rachel Lai" and simply live as a normal woman.
Much like a soul-searching young adult embarking on a journey to find themselves, Rachel took her own "gap year" and chose to become an English teacher in Karakura, Japan. As a model student herself in high school, she found teaching to be a natural fit, especially in her strongest subject: English. This role offered her the freedom to breathe, be herself, and contribute meaningfully to the world. For Rachel, helping her students succeed was more than just a job—it was her way of making a real difference in their lives, one that she wished someone had made for her.
A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
While Rachel Lai is not one to raise her voice, she knows how to command a room when the situation calls for it. Her naturally calm and soft-spoken demeanor often works to her advantage, as any shift in her behavior immediately captures attention. If a student continues to be disruptive after her initial polite request to wait until after class, Rachel would quietly and purposefully walk to their desk, stopping directly in front of them.
In a low, measured voice, she would address the student, asking them to refocus on the lesson. While her words remain composed, her tone would carry a firm undertone that subtly conveys, "Disrespect me, and I will hold you accountable." The disruption of the lesson and the deliberate act of singling out the student would likely cause them to reconsider their behavior.
However, Rachel isn’t one to allow repeated disruptions to go unchecked. If the student persists, she would calmly issue a detention slip. Her approach is clear: three strikes, and you're out. Through her controlled yet assertive actions, Rachel maintains the balance of authority and respect in her classroom.
Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
1. Always wanting to keep things interesting, Lai would hold a class where her students would act out a script by Lai herself. Students would take the stage as these make-believe characters, reciting the words on the page… only some sentences did not sound quite right.. and here's the lesson: students in the audience must correctly identify the grammatical errors in the script! Some of the errors are really silly - helps keep the students engaged - but still very much grammatically incorrect. Lai would draft multiple different scripts so that all the students had a turn at acting, as well as identifying the mistakes. At the end of the class, Lai would have her students vote on who the best actor was from the group… and award them their very own Oscar! She thought it would be something fun to throw in.
2. A similar, yet different interactive class idea would be Miss Lai's Build-a-Story. In this exercise, the class collaboratively creates a story, one sentence at a time. Rachel begins with an intriguing opening line, such as, “It was a stormy night when the power went out across the town,” to set the stage. Then, she calls on a student to add the next sentence, building on what she started. Each student contributes sequentially, crafting the narrative as it evolves. If the story starts to drift or stall, Rachel guides the class with prompts like, “What happened next?” or “How did the character react?” Once the story is complete, the class reads it aloud together, enjoying the creativity and surprises that emerged. This activity encourages teamwork, enhances vocabulary, and fosters confidence in both speaking and writing in an enjoyable, interactive way.
3. Lastly, we have the Grammar Relay Race. In this game, the class is divided into small teams, and each team takes turns completing grammar challenges written on slips of paper. These challenges might include correcting sentences with grammatical errors, choosing the correct preposition, or identifying parts of speech. Each team sends a representative to the board to solve a challenge, and once they get it right, they tag the next teammate to take their turn. The race continues until every team member has participated. Miss Lai would actively encourage and cheer on the students, offering clarification for any mistakes. This game combines teamwork, quick thinking, and grammar practice, transforming what might be a routine lesson into a high-energy, collaborative learning experience.
