IC Section

What is your name?
Inari Lenue
What is your age and grade?
18, Grade 12.
What is your motivation to lead a club within the school?
My motivation for creating this club comes from my time in the Journalism club as well as my lived experienced as a person who comes from a marginalised community.
The methods by which Journalism has helped prepare me and push me towards this is that the school paper and radio serve as a liaison of sorts between student affairs and the student body at large. I hope to achieve a similar relationship as a club leader by providing a space for the student body to interact with the diversity of the world and its cultural differences. I am aspiring to bring a new understanding and method of interaction for underrepresented cultures while engaging with the student body in a creative and positive light that is yet to grace this school.
This reasoning aside, I am looking to take on more responsibility so as to build my reputation within this school as not only a responsible person, but a respectable one for when I first arrived in Karakura I was, how might one say, troubled. I have since escaped this cycle through new close friends, club involvement, and personal development fostered by some of the most respectable individuals in this schools community and club scene. By establishing another new personal connection and investment in a school program beyond writing one paper a month, I believe that I can continue this personal chain of growth further.
In doing so, I hope to make my family, my close friends, colleagues, and the schools Senior Leadership (Kekoa excluded since nothing pleases him) proud! Additionally, I look to help make the school feel like a more safe place by promoting cultural inclusiveness and representation. As a club leader I would not only be tasked with immense responsibility but also be, in a manner of speaking, a reflection of the schools values and I believe that considering the unbelievable diversity within the student bodies population, further promotion of these values can only benefit the school, in terms of image, as well as the students themselves.

Why choose you over other candidates applying for this position?
While there are numerous qualified candidates I believe that I am best poised for this position due to my life experiences as part of both Samí and Ainu culture. Aside from this, I have had an overabundance of opportunities provided to me through my upbringing and have had numerous role models who have thoroughly exemplified and instilled the concept of leadership and what it means to lead. My older sister, who is more of a mother than anything else, Lya Lenue being a leading example who is also connected to the school itself being a prime example of my influences and potential to lead.

Do you have a student councillor to supervise and assist your club?
I do not have one at this time but this is subject to change.

Will there be any requirements of future members to join your club?

No strict requirements for joining other than a commitment to be respectful towards other cultures, no matter how weird or unusual it may seem to us!
Preference will be given to older members with a more mature outlook towards club activities.
Though once you have joined, there are some restrictions that will be enforced
Member activity will be monitored and strikes for inactivity will be enforced.
Members must attend at least one event or meeting per month unless otherwise unable to. Exceptions exist of course and will be handled by myself or senior club members.

Provide one school-wide event that your club may host

World Culture potluck! During this event, all students or faculty from any and all backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to come and present dishes from their native region, even if they are not bringing their own dish, the event is open to all for participation, and yes admittedly, for some good eats. Though as a club we encourage enjoying the food and the history lesson! The event would be announced two weeks in advance online and anyone looking to provide food would coordinate with us before a designated cutoff date. Anyone who is providing food is also welcome to host or commission a small speech or presentation about their culture. This presentation would include an informational section about their culture, what their dish means to their culture, as well as providing examples of traditional music from their background!

Disclaimer: When we use the word commission, there is no charge applied. It means that a senior club member will assist or be in charge of creating the presentation and presenting it ourselves at the request of the dish provider as we understand not everyone is capable of public speaking and we want to increase accessibility to knowledge about new and underrepresented cultures and don't believe that knowledge should be limited by ones ability to speak publicly!

Provide one flash event that your club may host

One option I thought of on the spot now is a pop up art event! We would provide numerous examples of art, art styles, or methods as well as supplies and host a small competition with either senior leadership for the club judging, or the participants at large could vote! The winner could be gifted any number of items, though depending on the level of preparation we have, it could be a small cash prize, or if they're not already a member, they could be offered membership!

Provide one club activity that your club might host

An activity, different from our standard meetings that we may host, could be something as simple as a discussion in the club room, whether about the culture itself and its traditions or the struggles they may be faced with. To counteract the potentially sad tones such discussions may bring, we would round off the night with a movie about the culture in question, and if ingredients are available, we may try to cook up some snacks! A serious discussion about how to avoid cultural extinction rounded out by a cozy movie night with homemade traditional snacks sounds like a perfectly well balanced activity that all can take part in.
