School News Report | Ending ‘Jock’ Stereotypes

Ending the 'Jock' Stereotype
20 April 2025 / by Chiyo K. Komatsu

If you consumed any type of Disney content as a child, you’re most likely familiar with the common ‘Jock’ caricature, the male character that played either Football (the American kind..) or Basketball, bullied nerds (AKA what would've been us Journalism kids I guess) and got all the hot cheerleaders. The main jock was usually some super significant role in the sports team as well, like the captain or the quarterback, and they always got paired with the hot blonde cheer captain.

Anyways, hope you remember that from your childhood, and hope you can forget it RIGHT FREAKING NOW! We are LEAVING this stereotype in the 2000s and FAR AWAY from Karakura.

Okay, okay, before you argue that Karakura’s football team is known for dating the cheerleaders, throwing ragers, and…okay let's not talk about the Football team. Let's discuss TRACK!

High school track is FAR from the jock stereotype! Can you name one time you, the average karakurian student, have been swirlied by a TRACK team member? Never! This is the same for the College Track team. The only people they bully are themselves whenever they try to compete against high school track!
Sure, you might argue that certain teams are very… stereotypical. But how about we focus on the other teams? Highschool Female Volleyball, as an example! All I've seen them do is dress up in silly costumes and terrorize people in nonviolent ways! How could you ever be scared of them?
And take a look at High School Baseball! They're the masters of silly collab practices right next to Track!
Basically, if you ignore the swirlys, underage drinking, smoking, partying, intense rivalries, insane Cheer drama, detentions, suspensions, and vandalism… Karakura sports is nothing like the Jock stereotype, and we should never ever be compared to that! Forget about it NOW.

Thank you.

Uhm u forgot how the swim teams aren’t stereotypical. Both swim teams are amazing and filled with great team spirit and sportsmanship. But HS Swim is better- I mean what. Track AND Swim r both amazing sports.
