Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
Teachers create and host lessons that are interactive and fun to actively engage the roleplay community during school hours. Which is the the main focus of school roleplay; the school atmosphere. Without teachers and professors hosting classes, there is not much roleplay going on besides the other faculty members (like tutor, receptionists, librarians, chefs, councilors, caretakers and nurses) running around to monitor the hallways and students during school time. Sure, teachers monitor the halls and students as well, but the main focus of being a teacher is literally to teach and mentor students.

It's also important to remember that the classes would be mundane if we didn't have teachers who specialized in different subjects; like art, physical education, history, english, sciences, music, drama, and many other subjects that adds a variety to the types of lessons teachers can come up with for school.

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?: Yes
Do you agree to undergo teacher training if your application is successful?: Yes

In-Character Section

What's your character's full name?: Ugo Topo
What is your character's nationality?: Itailian
What is your preferred subject to teach?: Design Technology (Workshop)

Describe your character:
1731167832356.png

His left shoulder would be decorated with roses ands leaves that extended all the way down slightly past their elbow; with five hummingbirds scattered amongst this bush of roses. His overgrown, ginger mullet would puff out. Causing some of the bangs to cover his placid, gray eyes. The corner of his mouth were curved in such a way that the grin on his face could be easily missed. The relaxed, man stood at a mere 5'11", and faintly smelt like freshly cut wood. Despite being 48 years old, he looked to be in his late 50s. Both of his hands were rugged and scarred, however on his left hand you'd notice that the tip of his index finger was missing. Which he lost during his early years of teaching Workshop; when a student didn't properly hold the saw correctly whilst Ugo was helping them.

The missing finger tip, is Ugo's prime example as to why safety and proper tool usage is important. Mister Topo never wanted to let this incident deter him from teaching workshop, even if it was slightly traumatic for him. So he decided to continue his teaching career. Ugo spoke with a cautionary, yet candid tone. Unless he was going over a safety briefing. Which he'd do at every single class ever since the incident of where he lost a part of his finger. Briefing the students with a firm and assertive tone as he ended off with "And for the love of God, please follow the workshop rules and hold your tools properly," showcasing his left index finger that was missing the tip, "Or this will happen." His main focus of doing such safety briefings and being so insistent on following safety protocols, was in hopes that students would take heed of his advice and warnings about the dangers of not following instructions and rules.

Outside of a professional setting, you'd catch Ugo in any plain coloured T-Shirt that would be neatly tucked into his cargo pants. Inside of school he'd wear dress pants that were bound to be riddled with wood shavings and paint, due to the nature of how messy his class could get. His clothing was well kept whilst the rest of his appearance, like his hair, was neglected. Sure he came of as someone who kept to themself, and wouldn't go out of their way to draw attention to themselves; but that couldn't be further from the truth. Especially when it came to a safety concern, where he'd change on a dime. Going from calm and compose to loud and stern whenever he felt like something bad was about to happen. After evading whatever he felt like could've ended in bad repercussions, Ugo's hands would remain shaky for a good hour no matter how calm he tried to appear.

Coming from a middle class family who could barely afford costs for college classes, he'd always planned on giving his children better access to pursuing their education further. So in hopes of not repeating the same mistakes, Ugo's been saving up as much as he could for his children's tuitions. As well as the cliché goal that many adults share; to make a difference in the younger generations. However, this goal would narrow down specifically to help ensure that no accidents and injuries would occur due to improper usage of the tools in the workshop.

What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
"Many adults think that students are impressionable. And that may be true to some degree, but half the time they're already stuck in the paths that they've personally chosen. Some have decided to take on the rocky road that involves many risks, whilst others simply have chosen to listen to those with more life experience. Following onto a path that is easier and leads to less trouble down the line. Sure some kids may be easily influenced, but it's more so their peers influencing them more so than us adults. To them, how they look in front of their peers is more important than how they do to us adults. All we can do is set a good example and say that we tried with this upcoming generation. Most of adults are no better outside of work. But at least inside the workplace they get it all together to properly perform their jobs." Ugo would drum his fingers on the table, frowning as he sighed, "Even then though, you'll get goofballs in the workplace that cause disruptions and create a dangerous workspace."

What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
"I've always loved doing art projects. Most folks do. It's a way that everyone can express themselves. While sketching and painting is relaxing, there has always been something amazing about physically creating whatever you planned on paper. In the workshop, at other schools I had the privilege of teaching students how to create rough draft blueprints, and even encouraged them to think outside of the box. Bringing their own inspirations and ideas into the classroom. The only other class that comes close to engaging in student's creativity like this is art class. And even then it's simply just for art. Here student's learn skills that can benefit them outside of school. Since they learn how to safely handle tools and to apply simple mathematical skills into such projects." Ugo adjusted himself in the seat slightly, his smile remained as he paused to recollect his thoughts, "To put it simply however; I do it mainly to see the creativity of the younger generations. While also ensuring that nothing bad happens while they explore this creativity with such powerful tools in the workshop."

Roleplay Scenarios

A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
Noticing that a student appeared to be stumped on their project, Ugo would approach them quietly. Looking at the student's blueprints and materials, he'd raise his soft gaze up to meet theirs as he gently asked them if there was anything that they needed help with. Ugo would patiently wait for the student's response, so that he could address whatever they were stumped with directly. If the student wasn't sure of the entire lesson, Ugo would set some time aside during that period to slowly review the contents of that lesson. Addressing any questions directly 1 on 1 as they popped up during the review. If for whatever reason there wasn't enough time in the period to do some review with the individual student to address whatever they couldn't grasp. Ugo would then offer to spend some time during lunchtime or a break, to aid the student.

A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
After giving the student a single warning, Ugo would pull the student into the hallway, to privately address their behaviours. If the student seemed remorseful, Ugo would allow the student to continue working on the project that he gave the rest of the class to do. However, he'd ensure that he'd separate the student from any classmates who were encouraging the classmate to fool around. Ugo would then address the class after coming back from the hallway, he'd warn the students that any other disruptions that would lead to further consequences; such as being kicked out. While addressing the class he'd go over the safety rules again, even though he'd already go over these safety rules at the start of class. Reminding the students of the dangers of fooling around and not taking the class seriously. If any other disruptions happened after that, Ugo would make the offending students perform a safety worksheet instead of allowing them to continue on their project. If the student(s) persisted on being disruptive, after being given yet another warning and not doing the alternative task without interrupting the lesson, Ugo would then kick the students out of class.

Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
First class idea; basic safety trivia. Go over common safety rules that apply to the workshop with students. Ensuring that everyone gets a chance to answer. If the class is big enough, do the trivia with teams as opposed to every student for themself.

Second class idea; show students how to draw a blueprint. Afterwards allowing them to choose simple projects to design as a blueprint. Which would require measurements, precise sketches, materials needed, and labels.

Third class idea; get students to build from a blueprint (whether it's a blueprint that they drew from another class or one that's handed out). With the provided materials they'd be supervised and expected to build from their blueprints. Getting graded on how accurate they were with the blueprint they followed.

Forth class idea; making wooden cars, designing them, and then having the students compete in a race off! For the roleplay scenario, the use of rolling out of 20 would be used in unison of actioning to race these handmade cars.

Fifth class idea; whittling lesson. Where students are given whittling tools and are shown a quick tutorial video from the internet before being given the chance to copy the video. The video shown is how to whittle a wooden block into an egg. Students are graded on how close they got to the ideal 'egg-shape'.

Sixth lesson idea; students are given ceramic mugs that they are expected to smooth out and to paint after being given the correct tools and supplies to do so. The students would then be expected to put their painted and smoothed out ceramic mugs into the oven to finish the project. As they cooled off, the projects would get graded on how smooth and lovely these mugs looked.

Seventh lesson plan; students are instructed to make a small wooden box and to paint it. Being given the choices to either make it a simple box or to make it a bit more complex; by giving the boxes some jewelry compartments. Where the grading is focused on the quality of the box and on the design.

I have more class ideas that would be divided up into the following units of; whittling, blueprints, ceramics, wood building, and safety. All of which would involve different projects.
