Introduction:
A club that stood the test of time. One which defied all laws of what should be possible, now turned to a long line of history behind its beginning. Yet, history is a precious thing, only documented through the writings and retellings of those who have been there to document it. Sometimes, history can become corrupt or go missing, depending on the hands of the beholder. Maybe that's why the Occult Club’s history was never clearly defined in one linear historical timeline.
However, found documents and letters from within the club were collaged together to create a timeline.

Yin! Did you hear the story about Rei Fujimoto getting dismissed yesterday? There were rumours of her disappearance, after which she began to tell Miss about such instances with her ghost stories. I heard they called her crazy, like an animal crazy. Anyway, the Principal dismissed her with a case of hysteria and was advised to seek assistance for such.
You’re lying Emi. She was sent home after she broke into a classroom. They’re calling the police and the monastery staff to help them. People are going crazy. I saw Sato and the Watanabe twins heading into the back closet.
Oh em gee! There is no way you witnessed that? I heard they were a group believing they were able to solve the supernatural. I also heard from Yamamoto that apparently they’ve seen ghosts! I want to see a ghost so bad!! Maybe it would know my past or something.
Yeah, I witnessed it, they call themselves… but they better watch out. The teachers are calling them outcasts and dangerous.
You’re right, Yin maybe it isn’t so safe. Do you feel safe?
No, I don't, I feel like I’m being ….

School News Report | Special Column: 1969 Clubs and Cliques, Part II
By Noriko Aihara, Class 2-B
Our school is home to many admirable groups. A glance at the schoolyard shows students drifting into their familiar circles and little kingdoms. Last week, we discussed the best of us. Not all of us are as disciplined and exemplary as the Moral Club, or as sharp and brave as the Journalism Club. Some gather not for glory or discipline, but for stranger ambitions, and they, too, deserve a spotlight. (Next month, we’ll visit the Sports and Culture Clubs.)
Today, however, I will not speak about the Bancho and Sukeban who loiter behind the old gym, nor will I cover the infamous 12th-grade Zengakuren and Zenkyoto activists, and definitely not the Snake Dance Incident. I’d rather talk about another group that has been haunting our school grounds for quite a while now. Officially registered in 1967, this small group of oddballs has been lingering in the school's attic and the old infirmary room for over a decade now. Some of you already know their code names: Ryu-san, Hebi-san, Kame-san, Karasu-san, and Usagi-san. Their real names are an open secret, but out of courtesy, and perhaps fear of curses, I will use their chosen aliases. But everyone should know who I’m talking about now: The Karakura Occult Research Club.
According to their self-penned "club history," they met as children but only formed the official club after receiving Principal Tada’s approval, when they all joined middle school. They claim to have inherited their mission (along with dusty case files, tarnished keys, and ominous warnings) from a mysterious upperclassman who graduated two years ago. This predecessor, it turns out, was the last known member of the unofficial "Occult Society," a group often disciplined for trespassing, disturbing classes, and (allegedly) summoning Fox spirits in the science lab. A proud legacy, one might say, judging by how often our current Occult Club visits Principal Tada’s office, a record twelve times in two years.
I remember one instance personally where they got caught climbing around in the newly opened backyard excavations, claiming that the foundation of the school was protected by a mummy man. Another time, they stirred panic by declaring that the Toge Tunnel project had disturbed sacred burial grounds and were taken into custody for trespassing in the maintenance tunnels. More recently, they were apprehended by the Ochiba Firewatch while conducting a candle-lit ritual to ‘put spirits at ease’. Their passion for stirring spiritual crises has earned them the skepticism of many teachers, and at least one formal letter of complaint from concerned parents. Rumors even suggest they once stole dead animals to "give them a proper burial." Apparently, to strip an “evil magician” of their control over “Inugami ghost hounds.” I’m not making this up, and these are just the times when they got caught red-handed.
Listening to them was not only entertaining. They are utterly sincere in their beliefs, which only makes them more fascinating. Sure, this can be explained by their upbringing:
Ryu-san, who could easily have been a star athlete, grew up in that secluded Kohaku mountain shrine. That’s where he picked up his trusted “ghost punching technique”. I think most of us didn’t even know anyone was still alive up there.
Karasu-san, once a promising member of our Journalism Club (yes, I have some feelings about that), now photographs spirits instead of scandals. Her absentee father’s past association with the eccentric Americans who flooded our island during the “Haunted Years” surely left an impression.
Kame-san declined an interview, offering only a condemning silence. Some say he acts as the club's bodyguard. He does look the part, if not for the cute little bowl cut and the glasses.
Usagi-san, who we all know and love as the “Witch of Kaigan Beach”. No comment, since she already got her news article last year, there is no need to reward her with even more attention.
Hebi-san, their elusive "club captain," is instantly recognizable by his black glove and eyepatch. Those of us who remember him from Elementary School know that he was homeschooled in those old Itsbyoshi Estates, before he joined the rest of us. And when I asked why they haven’t moved back into their designated club room like everyone else, Hebi-san explained: "Our club room is currently haunted by a fourth-dimensional time specter." I don’t make that stuff up.
That’s when I pressed them for a list of all the ghosts and ghouls they had encountered. To close this article, and for your entertainment, I include the highlights of that list as a flyer in this month's pamphlet. My personal favorites are:
No.10: Hanako-san of the Second-Floor Girls' Bathroom
No.17: The Old Clock Tower Specter
No.29: The Amanogoblin of Room 123
No.33: The Living Wax Cabinet
No.09: Yellow Bakeneko Cats
No.04: Kitsu-Tan, The jolly shapeshifting Kitsune
Next week's article will be about the Sukeban trend in our school and how these feisty delinquent girls have conquered the old gym. Stay tuned for more School News Reports!

Explosion sending Karakura High into Chaos!!
Student Report by Aoi Kaigoshima.
22nd of February 1987
Good Morning Karakura High! Kaigoshima is reporting for duty today, and with it I have some nerve-racking drama which is going down within the school. This is going to be a fairly small and also very rushed report focusing on the recent chaos that unraveled in the basements of the school. As many of you know, the school is currently shut down due to recent incidents with students. For those who dislike school, it’ll be a few days off from speculation after the school's BOILER ROOMS exploded!!
It may or may not be well known, but this is not the first time the boiler rooms have exploded, and I doubt it’ll be the last. On the 21st of February, just last night, the infamous boiler rooms did explode. The cause is currently unknown as alarm bells went ringing and fire alarms erupted across the halls, the local Karakura Police Department donned their uniforms and marched into the flame-engulfed room to get rid of the fire. What makes it crazier was that there had been no signs prior to the explosion, making it a complete surprise to the school's Senior Leadership Team. However, it was reported that at around midnight, the alarm bells went ringing and the police urgently checked CCTV to see what was happening. From what my sources tell me, scattered across the screens around the boiler rooms, the place was crowded with smoke, flames and chaos. In the same room, there were reports of movement as if someone or something was in the room during the explosion. However, by the time the responders to the call, along with the ambulance, reached the school and got into the room to extinguish the flames, there was nothing left alive.
The following days, the school has been wonderfully shut down!! Plus one for us students as we get an amazing break from all the drama that has gone on. However, the school has banned all students from getting anywhere near the janitor's office or even the basement of the school. Police reports managed to identify nine bodies… all of which were tied to the occult club of 1987. Upon the uncovering of the bodies, the SLT of Karakura High has BANNED any form of supernatural or associated occult clubs! Ya heard me folks, there will be NO occult clubs in the rest of the school! Sadly, my reporters never allowed me to see the state of the room. However, my friend drew an illustration for us! Thank you to Kaseya!
From what I’ve been told, school will be closed for a while, so enjoy the winter air, Karakura High! Reporter Kaigoshima signing off.
[!] A photo was taken of chaos… was the only way to describe it [!]
3rd of March - Note from Aoi Kaigoshima to Nagisa Kaseya.
3rd of March 1987
Hey Usagi, have you heard any information from Hoshi? It's been a week since she was missing from classes, and even now, the teachers are unsure. I bet girly is probably hanging out at Sone’s place, but he hasn’t been to school either?
Nagi!! I know, right? I found it weird that … has completely been missing… she completely stopped attending classes with me on the 25th of February, and since I haven’t seen her at school at all! I am missing her soooo much! She didn’t even seem an ounce okay when I last saw her! I am so worried…
You’re right, there's something weird. I went to her mother's place, and she said she hadn’t seen … I am really worried. Where is she now? Maybe we should break into Sone’s place or go visit him? He might’ve seen her.
Nagi… don’t you find it weird? She and Sone left after the explosion, and I knew … wasn’t home that night when it happened. What if she…
4th of March - Fuji

Fuji, I am worried for … I’ll come pick you up seeming since you ALWAYS ARE ARRESTED!!!

Letter to SLT by Janitor … 1987
Dear Management,
Recently, upon entering my office, I discovered a group of four students rummaging through in search of something. While it is unknown what they were after upon my entrance, they all froze and turned to me before noises were made amongst these students, and they scattered in different directions. Something had previously been of concern to me, as one of the local students was hovering outside my office. In fact, the young girl continuously intercepted me before I could get into my office, leading me to suspect she was involved too.
Once I had discovered them, as I stated before, they all scattered. One managed to sneak past m,e and another two jumped from my window to run. I am contacting you on behalf of this break-in and to request that all cameras around my office be checked. This could be a serious matter, and I fear for what they managed to take or steal. From what it looks like, these students seem to have coordinated and organised this with a goal or idea of capturing something.
Please check the cameras. I can visit your office for further information if needed.
Kind regards,
… Janitor
Out with the old, in with the new!? Karakura High’s new leadership!
Student Report by Aoi Kaigoshima.
Following the events of the explosion, Principal Shimizu and Dean Mikan covered up the incident over the next several years as they remained in power. Saying it was an accident and blaming the students who were lost during the incident. It wasn’t until years later, when a rumor was spreading over the school, was when it caught the police's attention to the old Cold Case. Arriving at Karakura High and College, the police would start their investigation of the SLT members, the faculty, and the building itself. It isn’t stated what exactly had happened, but rumors stated that the explosion was caused by the SLT neglecting their duties of upkeep of the school. Soon after the investigation, Principal Shimizu and Dean Mikan were arrested at their homes following the presentation of a mysterious journal entry to the police.
Upon hearing this information, the mainland Government sent officials to assist the situation at Karakura High and College. Fixing what needed to be repaired, doing their own investigation on the faculty, and eventually replacing the Principal and Dean with hand-selected candidates of their choice, Tenshi Mizukawa and Tobirama Ichikawa.
STUDENT NOTICE:
From now on, ALL forms of Occult Clubs will be BANNED with the actions of recent students discovered in the janitor's office. There will be no exceptions.

History of the Occult Club - 2024 Edition.
By…
The ban on occult practices was lifted when a newly appointed Vice Principal officially approved the formation of the 2024 occult club. Following the new Occult Club, the new lead picked out assistants and five other members, each bringing their own interests to the table. It wasn't long until the club attracted new applicants, all of whom were quickly accepted as members of the growing club. Briefly after, the club met a strange lady, the dark lady of occult patronage. She invited the club to practice dark arts. However, the invitation was declined. As the club continued to meet and grow, the students began to witness the phenomena around the town. With the new growth, the Club's lead began to become absent, causing the first democratic vote of the occult club to take place, selecting a new lead. With new leadership came new positions, selecting a new assistant lead and a consultant, along with another supervisor. The new club leader gave a new approach to the club, restoring its image to be inviting, safe, and inclusive to all. This was followed by new practices, such as an open-door policy and meetings, trips to paranormal hotspots, and collaborations with other clubs.
As the month of October approached, the club fell victim to a terrifying witch’s curse, the Ushi no Koku Mairi, an ancient hex traditionally performed during the “Hour of the Ox.” The curse tainted Room 004 and its members with escalating waves of misfortune and malice. Two students revealed themselves to be behind the vengeful attack. With a young boy being the mind behind the attack due to rejection from the club, and a young girl aiding her with the power of imperial blood to command spirits at her will. Together, they exploited forbidden summoning rites and blood magic to tear open a rift within the clubroom. This breach between worlds allowed malevolent entities to spill into the mortal realm, prompting a spirit, a minor death deity, to intervene three times and aid the club members. The curse was broken before the month ended. Was it a turn of events? Or perhaps a change of heart. Only a few know what truly happened, although it resulted in the young boy losing his memories and the disappearance of the girl.
Is this all? More documents are withheld within the club. If you wish to know more, speak to the occult club!!
