General description

Description: POI-015 Known as the Takagi hut (高木小屋), is a small traditional looking cabin found at the top of a mountain of the east Kohaku Mountain Range.

From the exterior one can see that the Takagi hut is mainly made out of concrete and strong wood spruce pillars that keep the structure standing. The structure seems to not have been compromised at all throughout its long existance. However the wood planks that make the floor are somewhat rotten and broken and the roofs are covered in plentyful of foliage.

The structure lacks any light source, there are only some lamps on the outside and a small light in the cellar. However the Hut is still very easy to navigate due to its small size.

There are certain lesser obstacles in the halls, like very big cobwebs and overgrown plants, that might make traversing the area slightly more complicated, however it is not a big deal.

Zones and structure.

The Takagi hut has some small areas, mainly it has three floors and a garden. The first floor is innaccessible, the base floor and the basement are both accessible.

The yard

The yard is the exterior of the Takagi Hut, being the route where one enters through. It is adorned with an inscription detailing its name along a Japanese Flag. The yard being the exterior is adorned with overgrown flowers, plants and small non functional lamp posts. The path deviates into two sections, the straight one approaching the Wishing Well and the right one providing access to the ground level floor of the Takagi Hut.

The Wishing Well (その拍手) is a small old and worn out well of water covered with a traditional roof and adorned with its name. One can find an exit to the place inside its waters. Right next to the well one can find the rests of a karesansui garden, its sands now completly uneven.

Going through the path on the right one will arrive at the entrance of the Takagi Hut.

The ground level

The ground level of the hut consists of a well defined set of short halls and small rooms. One can see that the current state of the area is quite deteriorated, being the foliage and wrecked wooden planks of which the ceiling and floor are made of. One can also find plentiful of pottery and scattered debri in the area along cobwebs.

Taking on the path on the right one will find a set of small tables and pottery scattered on the ground plus a picture of the Takagi clan in its past. Gazing at the ceiling, one will find a small opening caused by it having fell off from, through this opening one can see the upper floor of the Hut. To add more, we believe that the trapdoor that once led to the attic was located at the at that section of the ceiling. However an unknown event led to the collapse of it.

Going on the left hall, one will find it bifurcating into two directions. Going west will lead to a small section next to a staircase leading to the basement of the Hut.
Going on the East direction one will find a small living room to the left. Made up of some cushions and a tea table. In the wall of the room shattered emblems can be seen scatered on the wall.

If one chooses to go further into the hall, the storage room will be reached, it consisting of a small set of deteriorated shelves covered in foliage along a few bookshelves filled with very worn out scrollls currently unreadable to the usual explorer.

Going on the right on the storage room connects to the left hall.

The attic

The first floor is an inaccessible area found of the Hut. However one can see its interior from below, in the ground floor, and from the roof. The attic used to be locked away ever since the passing of Lady Tsugumi. Having the same materials as the ground floor, with some small fenced windows. In the interior there are plentiful of bookshelves and texts, and it is also filled to the brim with cobwebs and all sorts of objects, this makes sense as it was used by Lady Tsugumi herself to store huge amounts of knowledge, some even related to the Kami or politics.

However, you shall not enter the attic as it is Lady Tsugumi's personal place. Please stay clear from there out of respect, or out of fear from a curse.

The basement crypts.

Going down the stairs that are found when going through the left hall and choosing the first west turn. The basement materials are stone bricks and stone. There is little to no light within the basement, just the dim brightness of a blue lamp in the floor. Within the basement crypts there are no debris on the floor nor obstacles either.

There is a small shelf on the turn to the left from which all items had fallen into the ground, along and a crack in the wall, from where old kanji can be read. Going foward will lead to a small room decorated with a small counter and a bookshelf.

Entrances and exits

There are a two entrances and exits.
  • Entrance/exit 1: Following the mountain trail to the right will lead to the yard of the Takagi Hut
  • Entrance/exit 2: The Wishing Well (その拍手) works as an entrance and exit. It leads to an underground cave found beneath the Hut.

Entities

There is a high number of entities, many of them human.

Non-human entities

There is not many vermin within the area.

Human entities

The Takagi Hut is a historical hotspot, therefore it is not unlikely one will occasinally find visitors.
  • Explorers and visitors: Usually explorers stumble upon this area and stick around due to its calming nature, other visitors simply decide to come to walk around the area and look for interesting things within the Hut.
  • Criminals: It is not impossible that criminal activity takes place because of the Hut's isolated position from the rest of the city.
  • Lady Tsugumi Takagi: If paranormal activity begins to take place, it is reccommended one leaves the Hut and presents respect to Lady Tsugumi. Reports say that she is a reasonable individual, however it is advised to not waste her patience.

Environmental threats

This place is safe compared to other POI's, which are more tricky to explore and wander through.
  • Collapse threat: Even though the Takagi Hut has been quite stable, some sections of the building have been compromised. It is unlikely it falls apart but being careful will not hurt you.

History

The Takagi Hut is speculated to have been built around the 1630's and is known for certain that it existed previous to 1700. The Takagi Hut is one of Lady Tsugumi's residences. Many years after the passing of the Mother of Karakura, a scroll written by the son of whom is the grandaughter of Lady Tsugumi, began to report paranormal activity, now believed to be Tsugumi's presence. The following text is a transcript of the scroll Nº 105 published at "takagiscrolls.ka"
From our dear scroll exposer said:
SCROLL 105: A STRANGE PRESENCE WITHIN TAKAGI HUT
AUTHOR: MASUO TENMA
LOCATION: HOKUSEIBU PALACE, CURRENLY KNOWN AS JINSEI ZEN GARDEN
DATE FOUND: August 12th, 1999

A scroll has been retrieved from Jinsei Zen Garden with the date of 30th of December, 1722,

To Lady Masuo Misaki
My great honourable mother, I send you best regards and wish you a long life.
I write to you, my mother, after discovering very strange findings. After a recent endeavour to Takagi Hut, your marvellous grandmother’s residence before her passing, I have encountered quite strange phenomenas which include painted figures moving within their portraits, strange shadows following those that visit, and strangest of all is the tight lock on the attic of the hut. Countless of efforts and attempts have been made to pry open the trap door to the attic, however, to no avail. I dared not climb Lady Takagi’s sacred roof, should the gods catch me and curse me to all eternity.
The reasoning behind my attempt to visit the attic is the rumours of Lady Takagi’s immense possession of knowledge and scrolls that contain secrets of Karakura and our kami. If you have any notion of how to enter the attic, or possess the key to or know an individual of your family that does, please send to me and I will see to it.
Your Loyal and Virtuous Son,
Masuo Tenma

Despite the paranromal events that occured within its grounds, the Takagi Hut was still inhabited, as pictures dating from 1817 are present. Yet there is not much information from that point onward. Last historical update would be when the trapdoor of the Hut was destroyed, since then one could consider with full certainty that the Takagi Hut was not inhabited anymore as if this were not the case, the ceiling would have been rebuilt.

Trivia

  • Behind the stairs of the basement, The names of Lady Tsugumi's children inscribed. Legend says all of them acted against their mother in some way or another. The list of names is: Shizuko (Takagi), Hikaru (Takagi), Hisako (Takagi), Megumi (Takagi) and Hidekazu (Takagi).
  • Someone has been leaking documents from Takagi Hut lately.
  • Hey, Vsauce, Michel Kone N.S here, your home security is great! or is it?
