Arakida Origins
Written by: lunetoria
A decade after World War II ended, approximately 1955 war veteran Shigeru Arakida moved to Yokkaichi, Japan. The country was still in the aftermath of the war and was still rebuilding and a decision was made from Shigeru that he would open up a small repair shack near some industrial docks. The man offered repairs with anything that had an engine in it, motorcycles, cars, boats, forklifts and factory equipment. He went by a motto: “There’s nothing I can’t fix.”
As years went by Yokkaichi became more industrialized, and Shigeru’s reputation spread. The man was honest with his work and had a passion for it, which brought local customers to like his work. Even with his passion for repairing old resources, he was fast and precise with each wrench and screwdriver he held. Eventually, Shigeru was given the nickname from the locals: The Yokkaichi Wrench.
By 1967, Shigeru opened the first official Arakida Works garage from all his hard earned money he had saved just a little over a decade. The garage had everything Shigeru needed to operate his business, from a grease pit to open space for cars. Shigeru even had a hand carved wooden sign for his operations. With the business now running, Shigeru decided to pass on his knowledge to his two sons and trained them with no manual. It was all hands on the same exact way Shigeru learned “Engines speak louder than words.”
The Golden Generation
Kaito Arakida was the eldest son to Shigeru and now leads the business after Shigeru retired. Taken from under his fathers wing, Kaito became smart, technical and cautious and proudly continued the skills he learned. Kaito modernized the garage and kept the business booming with customers soon upgrading from papers to computers and introducing official licenses.
Masaru Arakida was the youngest son to Shigeru and didn’t have the same type of passion his brother and father had when it came to repairing cars. The boy saw it as a waste of time and just saw it as random pieces of junk. Eventually the boy disappeared for years but made a return with a custom-tuned Datsun- Shigeru never spoke about the boy's sudden reappearance.
With Arakida Works now under Kaito’s hand, it became the go-to garage for the local businesses and working class. No one got rich, but they all got something far more better than money, respect. The Arakida’s were best known for their talented craftsmanship, not businessmen.
The New Generation
After an unfortunate event back in Yokkaichi, Arakida Works was abandoned. Kaito decided to leave Yokkaichi for a fresh start and found the small island known as Karakura to begin the third generation of the family legacy. Nichiwa, who was Kaito’s fiance at the time, didn’t want to leave Yokkaichi due to it being her hometown and where her other family members were. However, Kaito was able to convince his fiance that this would be for the better good and a fresh start with their lives, this led to Nichiwa finally agreeing to come to Karakura.
5 years passed, and the married couple had their first born daughter, Setsuki Arakida. This officially marked the beginning of the third generation. During those 5 years, word got around back in Yokkaichi that Kaito and Nichiwa moved to Karakura, which led to some of their own family members moving to the island as well.
The Arakida story is just beginning, and now it's your turn to write your legacy here.
