Frisk was born unwanted because their birth mother was too young to take care of them, so she gave Frisk up for adoption when they were very little. Frisk's mother was Japanese, and she had met their Brazilian gentleman father at a late-night party. They spent the night together after the party, and thus Frisk was born. Asgore and Toriel Dyllamore decided to adopt Frisk when they were 2 years old. They already had three children: a 6-year-old named Kris, a 4-year-old named Asriel, and a 3-year-old named Chara. The Dyllamores were happy with their choice to adopt Frisk and welcomed them into their family. The Dyllamore family's home stood by Yonaha Mountain in Okinawa. Toriel stayed at home to care for the children, while Asgore worked as a professional and successful florist.
Frisk grew up in the Dyllamore household surrounded by their siblings, each with their own personalities and struggles. Kris was quiet and responsible, often acting like a third parent. Asriel was lively and curious, always asking questions and eager to explore. Chara was a bit mischievous, a little odd for some. Frisk once caught Chara talking to himself in a mirror, eyes glassy and distant. Sometimes, Frisk even noticed unsettling drawings hidden under Chara's bed. Otherwise, life by Yonaha Mountain was peaceful. The family often spent weekends hiking or fishing near the water, spending time outside of their wealthy yet cozy little manor. Frisk loved watching the changing seasons, especially the spring when the flowers bloomed around the house. Frisk never really talks out loud, seemingly unable to form proper words without great effort. Instead, they use gestures and Japanese Sign Language to communicate. Even though they don't speak, they understand everything people say to them very well.
Frisk once went on a lone walk, wandering farther from home than usual. While exploring, they noticed the entrance to a cave but tripped over a hidden tree root, sliding inside. Luckily, they weren't badly hurt. When they stood up, they were surprised to find a patch of beautiful yellow-white flowers that almost looked golden in the light. Frisk picked as many as they could and carefully stuffed them into their backpack to keep for later. Then, using their flexibility and their small, rather fit frame from spending so much time outdoors, they managed to crawl back out of the cave on their own. Since then, they've occasionally returned to the spot to gather more flowers once they regrow. Surprisingly, the flowers last a long time without needing water, yet they asked their father to teach them how to dry flowers, which Asgore did. Frisk asked him since he was, of course, the experienced florist in the family, and because they wanted the flowers to last even longer. Over time, Kris and Asriel began helping their father with his work, accompanying him on small jobs when they could, not minding doing so. Meanwhile, Chara and Frisk mostly stayed at home with Toriel. Frisk often helped around the house, doing small chores like folding laundry, tidying up, or helping in the kitchen, as long as the tasks didn't involve electricity. Toriel, protective by nature, had a strong fear that Frisk might get electrocuted and made sure to keep them away from anything involving wires or appliances. Frisk never argued with this. In fact, they never showed much interest in electronics or devices to begin with. Chara was the opposite. They spent most of their time shut in the bedroom, seemingly playing video games for hours at a time. At least, that's how it always appeared to both Toriel and Frisk.
Since Chara never really helped with their father's work, Toriel and Asgore decided it was time for a change. After some discussion, Chara was sent to Karakura to join Karakura High at the age of 16, despite the homeschooling Toriel had done for the children. Chara insisted on a school with a strong reputation and showed their parents glowing reviews to convince them. Despite Toriel and Asgore knowing that Chara was introverted, the parents were happy that a place had been found for Chara to go and start fresh. They arranged for Chara to stay at a supervised apartment, funded by them. Frisk felt sad when Chara left, even though they hadn't spent much time together. Still, the moments they did share always felt meaningful. Chara would sometimes teach or show Frisk new things, and on occasion even took over some of Frisk's lessons when Toriel needed a break. Despite Chara's occasional odd behavior, it was clear they had a sharp mind and a good understanding of things. Those moments left a lasting impression on Frisk, who noticed that Chara seemed a little odd, almost shady, the more time they spent around them.
Everything went fine for a year, and Frisk turned sixteen. They had barely heard from Chara, and the things they did hear about Chara's actions were not very pleasant. Because of this, Frisk decided to go to Karakura as well. Chara had disappeared, and Toriel and Asgore kept certain details about what had happened hidden. They claimed it was sudden, but Frisk overheard whispered phone calls and saw the worried glances between their parents. Something had gone terribly wrong, something they refused to explain. Despite this, Frisk knew enough. Out of curiosity, and because of the school's good reputation and the town's quite pretty areas, Frisk wanted to leave Okinawa and gain new experiences. To move into the same apartment Chara lived in before, Frisk convinced their parents to let them go. Toriel hesitated, but agreed after seeing how serious Frisk was. But deep down, Frisk felt responsible, like maybe they could have helped Chara before things went wrong. They wanted to make things right, even if they don't yet know how. The main reason Frisk went to Karakura and chose to stay was to make amends for the mistakes and harm caused by Chara. Frisk hopes to do this by living in Karakura in a way almost opposite to their sibling, choosing a more pacifist path instead of Chara's more destructive and manipulative ways, also because Frisk simply dislikes hurting others.
Long before Frisk joined the Dyllamore family, the household had already begun to bloom like the gardens that surrounded it. Asgore and Toriel met in Kyoto during their early university years. He was studying horticulture, already with calloused hands and a gentle heart, known for creating breathtaking floral displays even on the tightest of student budgets. Toriel, only two years younger, was focused on early childhood education, often seen in quiet corners of the library with stacks of teaching theory and handwritten notes, her eyes always soft and attentive. Their connection wasn't instant, but it was steady. They first exchanged words in the greenhouse behind the university, where Toriel had wandered in out of curiosity. Asgore was tending to a row of lilies, his fingers dirt-stained, and she asked him what the flowers meant. He explained with a warm voice that they symbolized purity, renewal, and devotion. Toriel stayed to listen. They met again a week later, and again after that, their conversations growing deeper. Asgore admired Toriel's patience and quiet strength, while Toriel was drawn to Asgore's kindness and unwavering reliability. After two years of growing closer, they married modestly, surrounded by close friends and a simple archway of wildflowers.
They decided city life wasn't for them. Together, they moved to Okinawa, far from the noise, and purchased a peaceful plot of land by Yonaha Mountain, building their home surrounded by nature. Asgore started a florist business named 'Golden Petal', a small shop that slowly gained attention due to his refined skill and honesty. It was Toriel who helped with the early designs of the shop, painting the signs and keeping the books in order. But when their first child was born, she stepped away from helping Asgore and chose to stay home to raise the children, focusing on giving them a patient and well-rounded upbringing.
Their firstborn, Kris, arrived just as the first snowfall touched Yonaha Mountain that year. Kris was always quiet, reflective, and independent, rarely crying even as a baby. By the time Asriel came into the world two years later, Kris had already taken on the role of a tiny observer, watching over his younger sibling. With Asriel, the house became louder, filled with clumsy footsteps and laughter echoing through the rooms. Chara was born just a year after Asriel. From the start, Chara was different. Not in any loud or clear way, no tantrums or chaos, but with a strange kind of stillness. Chara rarely cried or reacted like other babies. He'd stare into mirrors as if he saw something the others didn’t. As he grew older, Chara showed signs of a sharp, inquisitive mind but kept his thoughts close, rarely sharing what he was thinking unless asked directly. He was odd, but not in a way that scared Toriel or Asgore, just in a way that puzzled them. Toriel homeschooled all three children from the beginning. It was quiet work. Lessons were stitched between baking bread, reading aloud, and long walks through the edge of the woods. Even when Kris and Asriel ran ahead, Chara never joined them. He'd complete what was asked of him, but only what was asked. Then he returned to the flickering blue light of his screen, eyes half-lidded, headphones around his neck. When spoken to, he answered plainly. When left alone, he stayed that way.
Frisk was brought into the family just before Chara turned four. He was still the smallest in the house when they arrived. Frisk never really spoke. Whenever they tried, only soft breaths or quiet stutters came out, but never actual words. It was like their voice was too shy or too tired to work. So instead, they learned to use their hands, signing slowly and carefully in Japanese Sign Language. It was their gentle way of sharing everything they wanted without struggling with words. Toriel and the others quickly understood, and the family grew to treasure this quiet language full of feeling. Even though Frisk didn’t say much out loud, their hands spoke for them, and their eyes held the words their voice never could.
