Adding a week's notice to big updates

What's your suggestion?:
Due to the new update, a lot of people have lost their apartments, along with tons of things such as customs, furniture, etc. Adding a week's notice before big updates like this could help people prepare by moving their things

How will this benefit the server and community?:
It'll help the staff and players more since staff won't have to deal with a lot of angry players due to the fact that they have lost their items, and it'll give players a week's notice to move their things.

I know that we have a command that does allow you to retrieve your items back, but giving a prior notice (to at least tell players to move their items out of the apartments and store it in a friend's house) in regards to big changes like reworking an apartment complex would ensure that players can have a guarantee in keeping their items safe. The responsibility therefore lies on them and not on the mods if it so happens they do end up losing something

Hello! I’d just like to say everyone’s items and furniture from their previous apartments are safe, and everyone has gotten their rent refunded to them based on how much time it had left. Purchasing a new apartment will allow you to unload all of your items into new chests!

I feel like there are nuances to be taken into consideration. The main reason (as I'm guessing) why staff didn't inform players is because they wanted to keep this whole project a secret to surprise the community with a huge update with little to no build-up. It's a method many other games use, and when executed in a certain way, it can increase the overall community satisfaction by preventing hype from dying down should things be delayed or cancelled.

Now, I'm not trying to say that their decision was right or wrong; I'm just stating that the reason why they decided to keep it hidden may be to make an impactful impression on the community while also avoiding people stressing out and causing a ruckus before the update is even brought to life (which ended up happening anyway, but still, it's a lose-lose situation).

Regardless of this suggestion's response, I believe both the community and the staff team will keep today's events in mind when faced with similar opportunities in the future.

I saw it as a flash event since it was sudden and unexpected, I wasn’t on to witness everything but I was given some screenshots to look at. I think it was cool for the staff and build team to do that, sure a weeks notice would’ve been nice to have but that would give away the surprise and unexpected event to witness. I’m sure with this sudden event that happened made everyone excited but panicking icly, maybe even oocly but I hope not because I wouldn’t see staff just destroying a huge chunk of the map where players lived at and be given no compensation and no items returned. And if that did come out to be the case, which it didn’t, then I could understand people wanting a weeks notice. We can’t change the events that have happened it is what it is. I’m grateful and appreciative of the staff and build teams hard work for working on this project for approximately 2 months and keeping it a secret until it was time to crash the old district down and bring in a new. I also want to mention that it was very very late for some of the members that worked on the reconstruction the day the event happened it was 5 am for some of them. Plus there’s a command to recover your items which was nice for the staff to do! If the command wasn’t a thing then I could potentially see a weeks notice be given out to the community to move their stuff out of their properties.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Short version
- All players were able to recover their items via /ap recover; this includes furniture placed, items in chests, and any items in other people's apartments where they were the first named on a [Private] sign.
- We made sure to give the end of the old Shopping District a proper send off via a flash event in-game, and we released a video teaser shortly after the event concluded which was posted on our Discord server. Even whilst the build was being set up the event continued through the form of fallout on ONRAIN and In-Character.
- We make it quite clear that players are renting these properties, and just like inactive apartments an Admin could disown them within reason. If you want a permanent property, look out for the Mansions Update which will be coming mid-late July :)
- We avoid spoiling large server updates to allow players to experience them first hand and increase the buzz in OOC and around the Discords; overall the feedback was very positive, taking away those who are upset about their apartments.
Long version
Change is inevitable and the Shopping District has been planned for a very long time. As this was one of the largest undertakings the Build Team have been assigned in many years we opted to keep the project a surprise until release day. We made sure to give the old Shopping District a fun In-Character send off with a build up through a flash event, and continued it with its fallout which took place both in-character and via ONRAIN (this event will be written in Karakura's Lore eventually).
Whilst it's understandable to be upset if you were one of the 170-190 apartment owners within the bounds of the shopping district, you did receive all of your money and items back. Overtime, we'll continue to update the server's features and Karakura City. There is still over 100 unclaimed properties around the map, so if you've lost your apartment there's definitely no shortage in places to store your items and live.
From our point of view, giving players a long notice period would've only spoilt the surprise and hype around this new update, not to mention that we already took care of transferring player items to their correct owners for each property and the month for rent which made a notice period pretty much pointless.
Moving forward, we will only create new apartment blocks where there's demand which is why we chose not to introduce new apartment blocks to the new Shopping District build update. As stated above, we've got loads of available apartment blocks, check out the Estate Agents In-game (1780x 17y 1355z)!
I'm overall very proud and impressed with the work of our Build Team over the last 2 months building this project from the ground up.
